More than 11,000 dual citizenship applications are still being processed out of a total of 14,525 applications received since March by the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

Regulations against taking Sri Lankan ID Overseas

The Department for Registration of Persons is to implement regulations on Sri Lankan nationals taking the National Identity Card (ID) with them when going on long trips overseas.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) today confirmed that, following remedial work and a re-test, the bowling actions of Sri Lanka’s Sachithra Senanayake is legal and he can now resume bowling in international cricket.

One hundred and fifty (150) citizens of Sri Lanka received their dual citizenship certificates on Wednesday, June 11. 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that so far 450 persons who had filed applications for dual citizenship, and paid fees before the facility was temporarily halted last year, have been granted dual citizenship. 

Sri Lanka's new government has blocked three casinos approved by the previous administration, among them a $400-million project by Australian gaming mogul James Packer's Crown Resorts Ltd.

Those who wish to apply for dual citizenship would be able to do so once again from tomorrow on a new criterion, Public Order Minister John Amaratunga said yesterday. The facility was suspended four years ago

“More than 300 people had applied under the previous regulations and paid the required fees. Their applications too would be assessed along with the new applicants,” the Minister told.

The fee for an adult applicant has been brought down to Rs. 250,000 from the previous Rs. 500, 000 while those under 22 years would be charged Rs. 50,000. A new eligibility criterion which would include required qualifications and remittance would be announced tomorrow, Mr. Amaratunga said adding that these requirements and the restructured application form would be available on the official website of the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

SRI Lanka stands ready to co-operate with Australia in what was shaping last night as the most public test of the Coalition’s tough asylum-seeker policy.

Colombo: Sri Lanka is two days away from it seventh presidential election and it is clear that it would be the closest and tightest presidential contest in the country's electoral history. Both candidates, namely President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena have expressed full confidence over the victory of the presidential election and the 'election heat' has already reached its zenith.

Just a week away from the election, two of Sri Lanka's prominent state universities released survey results on the possible outcome of the presidential election. One survey was conducted by the University of Colombo and the other by the University of Kelaniya. According to the two survey reports, the winner of the race will obtain a percentage of 53 per cent. However, according to the University of Colombo, the winner will be Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena while the University of Kelaniya states that President Mahinda Rajapaksa will emerge victorious.

Sri Lankan Passport Fees Increased from 1 Jan

 The passport fee has been increased from January 1 according to 2016 Budget proposals.

Based on Henley Visa Restrictions Index which ranks countries according to the travel privilege their citizen enjoy,  Sri Lankan citizens can visit  about 39 countries and territories without any prior visa plans or arrangements. Visa requirements for Sri Lanka nationals are administrative entry restrictions placed on citizens of Sri Lanka by the authorities of other states so this means that the they either enter those 39 countries without visa or get visa on arrival.
