People travelling to Victoria from Sydney’s northern beaches will be sent into mandatory hotel quarantine after a coronavirus outbreak there grew to 28 confirmed cases on Friday.

Victoria’s testing chief Jeroen Weimar has announced that anyone travelling from NSW’s coronavirus red zones from midnight on Friday will be directed to hotel quarantine where they must isolate for 14 days.

Nobody without a valid permit will be allowed into the state from NSW, with Victorian authorities urging those coming from NSW to avoid travelling to Melbourne if they can.

“It is of course our expressed desire that they do not travel to Victoria but those who choose and are able to do so will be managed by hotel quarantine in Victoria,” Mr Weimar said.
